The short version

Decibel Meter records no audio and collects no personal data. Sound is measured on your device and immediately discarded — the app has no server and makes no network requests at all.

The microphone

The app asks for microphone access because measuring a sound level is impossible without it. Audio is read from the microphone, converted into a decibel figure, and thrown away in the same instant.

  • No audio file is ever created. Sound is never written to storage, not even temporarily.
  • Nothing is uploaded. There is no server, no API and no network request of any kind.
  • No speech is processed. The app measures loudness and frequency energy — it does not recognise, transcribe or interpret what it hears.

What is stored on your device

Only two preferences: your alert threshold and the keep-screen-awake setting. They live in the app's own storage on your iPhone or iPad and are removed when you delete the app. Measurement history exists only in memory while the app is open and is gone as soon as you close it.

No third parties

The app contains no analytics, no advertising SDK, no crash reporter and no tracking of any kind. No data is shared with, or sold to, anyone.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone, regardless of age.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the revised version will be published on this page with a new date at the top.
